THE BOYANA CHURCH AND BOYANA WATERFALL
The 11-centuries old monument Boyana church is considered one of the cultural symbols of Bulgaria. Situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain it dates as far back as late X century. The incredibly detailed layers of murals are one of the main reasons for the church to be included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list in 1979.
About an hour and a half upstream the Boyana River takes you to the highest waterfall on Vitosha Mountain – The Boyana Waterfall. The 40 m fall is a magnificent sight that can easily be spotted from Sofia during spring time. A favorite location of all nature lovers from Sofia.
