After arriving at the end of the winning road that leads to what was once known as the Central Sport School, just a walk around the corner of the building brings you to Bear Meadow, which reveals a magnificent view of probably the most iconic peak trio in Bulgaria – Maliovitsa (2729m), Little Maliovitsa (2640m) and Orleto (2575m).
On a good summer day an attempt on the peak would normally take around 3 hours, starting from the Central Sport School, along the course of Maliovitsa River, trough Maliovitsa Hut onward to First and Second Terrace – perfectly flat meadows where the river follows beautiful meanders – sings of the long ago melted glaciers that once covered the whole valley. From there the route goes on to the Maliovitsa Lakes where the reflection of the peak in the pristine waters of the lakes often makes tourists pick this place to gather their strenght before the final approach. From that point the peak’s 200m face, which attracts many climbers, looks quite respectful.
At the top of the peak a stunning view reveals the entire valley and offers a glimpse into the two neighboring valleys. If you are lucky and you pay close attention you might even spot wild mountains goats and eagles.
A picturesque hike, offering a variety of terrains and breathtaking sights, the Valley of Maliovitsa is a wild mountaineering experience and one of our favorite tours!
